Female researchers and female artists together explain the Sea

Women have been active in marine research since beginning of the XX century, yet mostly in the laboratories and in analytical jobs, rarely were taking part in field research, long and difficult exploratory and scientific cruises. It has changed and today the input of female marine researchers is equal to such delivered by man, in all fields of marine science.
Still there is a striking difference – the narrative – sea stories both in academic education, popular science and visual documentaries are all strongly dominated by men. That was also true in art, where majority of sea paintings were authored by men.
We want to change this perspective, and we have started the initiative to combine scientific sea stories prepared by female researchers with the vision of the female artists on the same subject. In such way we are presenting to the public important news from the sea in such way, that lay person may at first stop to admire the piece of art, and consequently learn the sea story that is behind it.
