Today we started our next station - near NyAlesund. It is even harder than before as we cannot go with scooters on the ice and have to use man-power (here Wojtek) again.

But just only we started work we had to go back as a polar bear was approaching. After short preparation...

each team member had to be assisted by
a polar bear watchman (woman)...

and only one person could work as the others had to look out for bears ;)

Still, thanks God, we managed to get plankton, water and benthic samples. We stayed in lab until midnight again (and, yes, it was supposed to be day off again;)).
