Sopot, 29.05.2009

In Sopot, we organized Bioblitz as a competition between a team of land and sea biologists who tried to show which of the two environments - a seaside park forest or bathing waters - hides a greater wealth of natural diversity. The audience saw how many different specialists are needed to identify animals and plants even in a very familiar and simple environment. The competition was won by the land group, which in ten hours identified over 400 species of plants and animals, in the same time the sea team found about 100 taxa. The campaign was prepared by the Committee for Sea Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the MARBEF project as part of the Baltic Science Festival.

Duration: 29 May 2009, from 05:00 to 15:00.

Gdynia, 29.05.2010

In Gdynia, we organized Bioblitz to promote the planned underwater reserve at the foot of Orłowski Cliff (supplementing the long-existing reserve on the cliff). The campaign was carried out on 29 May 2010 – in the International Year of Biological Diversity. In addition to counting species, thanks to a team of volunteer divers, we collected over 100 underwater photos of the bottom, on profiles located by theodolites and the GPS system. These photos will be used to prepare a detailed map of the bottom of the reserve. The campaign was prepared by the Committee for Sea Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences, GREENPEACE and the Polish Hydrobiological Society with financial support from the Provincial Environmental Protection Fund as part of the Baltic Science Festival.

Duration: 29 May 2010, from 05:00 to 15:00.

Gdynia, 28.05.2011

We organized the third Bioblitz in Gdynia to collect illustrative material for the promotion of the planned underwater reserve at the foot of Orłowski Cliff. The field part of the campaign took place on May 28, 2011 – on the beach in Gdynia Orłowo near the pier. Thanks to a team of divers from the Gdynia Maritime Academy and IO PAN, we managed to collect a collection of marine plants and animals occurring in the reserve. In the autumn, at IO PAN, we developed a series of photographs of underwater species and habitats for the current home page, which will be supplemented and expanded. The funds needed to carry out this campaign were provided by the PAN Sea Research Committee and the Voivodeship Inspectorate for Environmental Protection.

Duration: May 28, 2011, from 9:00 to 15:00.
Location: Cliff – the sea at the foot of the cliff.

Sopot, 16-17.06.2023

Bioblitz 2023 was organized in the area of the Northern Park between Potok Grodowy and Swelina. June 16 was devoted to collecting materials, and on June 17, in the IO PAN garden at Powstańców Warszawy 55, we showed how to identify species. This time, alongside classic field biologists, molecular biologists from EMBL (European Molecular Biology Laboratory), a world leader in techniques for identifying organisms using genomic methods, appeared.
